Navajo Code Talker John Brown Jr. passes away

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. on May 21 conveyed his condolences to the family of the late Navajo Code Talker and Navajo Tribal Councilman John Brown Jr., of Crystal, N.M., who died at home. He was 88.

“With sadness, we heard of the passing of Mr. John Brown Jr., one of the original 29 Navajo Code Talkers and one of the Navajo Nation’s great warriors,” President Shirley said.

“For so long, these brave men were the true unsung heroes of World War II … These heroes among us are now a very precious few, and we, as a nation, mourn their loss. We offer our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. John Brown Jr.

  1. I had the pleasure of meeting this true hero when I was on the Longest walk 2, a sad loss for all. He was a soft spoken hero and served his country well, I wish American had treated him better.

  2. It’s true that nothing ever really dies on the internet. Today I was honored that some phantom photos of mine honored Navajo Code Talker, John Brown, Jr. I posted the circumstances on my blog as a tribute to Mr. Brown.
