Brock Vergakis of the Associated Press reports that a federal judge has ruled in favor of EnergySoutions and its authority to dispose of waste at its Utah facility, which could set the stage for the company to import up to 20,000 tons of radioactive wastes from Italy. The NRC has not yet issued an import license.
The waste would initially be processed at the company’s Oak Ridge facility on Bear Creek Road, with the residues shipped to Utah for disposal. Here is the AP report out of Salt Lake City.
