MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (AP) — Federal regulators agreed Wednesday to extend the license of the nation’s oldest nuclear power plant to 2029.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission voted 3-1 to deny an appeal from environmental groups opposing a new license for the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station in Lacey Township, N.J.

NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan said the license is likely to be granted by April 9. While that’s a separate decision, he said it’s largely a formality now that the opponents’ appeals have been denied.
