Professors defend Ward Churchill’s work, claim CU was too harsh

— Several professors testified Thursday at Ward Churchill’s unlawful-termination trial against the University of Colorado that the ousted professor’s scholarship was sound and that he was treated unfairly by the school.

University of Toledo English professor Barbara Mann testified that there is solid evidence that the U.S. Army purposely tried to infect American Indians with smallpox, as Churchill asserted in one of his books.

“It looked very likely to me, yes it looked very likely,” she testified.
