The Mescalero Apache Tribe will benefit by nearly $1 million out of $3.69 million allocated last week by the Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Native American Housing Block Grant program.

U.S. Rep. Harry Teague, D-N.M., said the Acoma, Isleta and Laguna pueblos, the Mescalero Reservation that adjoins Ruidoso and the Zuni Tribe will receive money from the Recovery Act to use for new construction, acquisition, rehabilitation, including energy efficiency and conservation, and infrastructure development.

The dollars also can be used to leverage private sector financing for new construction, renovation and energy retrofit investments.
