President Barrack Obama is taking some initial steps toward moving away from construction of an underground nuclear waste repository in Nevada.
Construction of the facility is considered important, but not necessarily crucial, to the government meeting its contractual obligations to remove radioactive material from Idaho National Laboratory.
Obama is proposing that only enough money be given to the Yucca Mountain Project for Department of Energy officials to continue to seek the necessary license to construct the facility
