Put Indigenous jobs before permanent housing, former MP says

A former Labor minister says the Federal Government should stop providing housing in remote Aboriginal communities where there are no job prospects for residents.

In a paper for the Menzies Research Centre, Dr Gary Johns says governments should cease building permanent housing in communities where people cannot afford to pay rent or service a mortgage.

Dr Johns says residents should be encouraged to move to areas where they can find a job.
