OAK RIDGE – Construction of the government’s new storehouse for bomb-grade uranium is complete, but no uranium will be loaded into the fortress-like facility for more than a year.
A lot of testing and training will take place in the months ahead, and that will be followed by a series of readiness reviews to actually certify the high-security nuclear facility for use.
“We expect to receive authorization to begin loading the facility about March 2010,” Steven Wyatt, a federal spokesman at the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant, said in an e-mail response to questions.
