Developers interested in building a $500 million nuclear weapons parts plant in south Kansas City have submitted detailed proposals to federal officials.

Brad Scott, regional administrator of the General Services Administration, said that up to five offers — the exact number was not disclosed — were received last week and are now being reviewed.

The proposal calls for building a 1.4-million-square-foot facility on a 185-acre site at Missouri 150 and Botts Road. It would replace the aging Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies plant now at the Bannister Federal Complex. The facility manufactures non-nuclear parts for nuclear weapons and has been in operation since 1949.
