Madison is among 14 stops on the ride which begins Wednesday and concludes Dec. 26. Riders will stop in Madison on Sunday and a public event is set for 8 p.m. at the Dakota Prairie Playhouse, where riders will have an opportunity to share their stories.
Silas Hagerty, director for Smooth Feather productions, said the ride is the fourth and longest ride to take place in an effort to bring healing to the area.
The hanging in 1862 involved 38 members of the Dakota tribe involved in an uprising while the North was fighting the South during the Civil War.
