Areva signs deals to advance construction of UK nuclear plant

French nuclear group Areva said Thursday it has signed engineering,
manufacturing and construction agreements with Rolls Royce and Balfour Beatty
as part of an action plan to advance delivery of its trademark EPR nuclear
reactors in the UK. 

     Areva said it will work with the two companies to identify the local
skills and resources required to deliver a fleet of EPRs and to develop
training programs where necessary.

     "These initiatives will have clear milestones and significant progress
must be made in the next 12 months to ensure project delivery," Areva said in
a statement.
